Inspired by his friends and snowboard crew “Glebelands", Shem began photographing their countless riding adventures at Bromley and Stowe, Vermont in the early 1990s. In 1994 Transworld Snowboarding Magazine published his first image in their ‘Photo Annual’.

After working as the photo editor for Transworld Snowboarding Magazine, Shem began freelancing for clients such as the NBA, Seventh Generation, Cabot Creamery, Burton Snowboards, and Birdseye Builders. He continues to travel the globe on various assignments and recently finished working as the Director of Photography on a couple of short films. The first, titled Shadow Self was written & directed by friend and artist; Scott Lenhardt.
The second was a collaborative project with friend and former pro snowboarder (now director); Lukas Huffman and choreographer Hanna Dennison titled “The Quarry Project”.
